• Carver’s very own Dance Company put on a play on November 3rd, 5th, and 7th, “Through the Looking Glass” for the Vertical schools in the auditorium. There were three performances given each day.

• The Magnet Festival was held here at Carver High School on the weekend of November 8th.

• The U. S. First Robotics held a New Controller Conference where an introduction, advanced viewing and demonstration of Carver’s new Robotics Controller for the upcoming season was viewed. This event was held on November 6th and 7th with two of our Carver students attending, Jesse James Juarez and Joseph Dardar.

• National French week was November 5-12, 2008. Carver’s French instructor, Mr. Lacey celebrated the week with his classes by making a morning announcement in French, having the kids write letters to French student in Arles, and bringing some sample French food for classes. Samples include croissants, brie cheese, and French lemonade which is similar to sprite.

• The Engineering Fair was held here at Carver Magnet High School in the auditorium and the LMC.

• Student 2 Student participated in a field trip to Tom Bass Park to engage in supervised activities for younger children who struggle with acceptance. The Council on Drugs and Alcohol of Houston sponsors all field trips for Student 2 Student to help develop character and leadership in today’s teens.

• On November 11th our 9th grade boys participated in a Basketball Scrimmage at Clear Springs High School in League City, Texas.

• On November 12, 2008, our Student to Student kids attended the Council on Alcohol and Drugs Fall Luncheon at the Hilton Americas. Celebrity guest Craig T. Nelson was the guest speaker. The event was held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

• On November 13th Carver received a visit from Phale Hale. The String Quintet, Piano and Guitar students put on a great show to entertain them.

• The G. W. Carver Speech and Debate Team attended the Spring High School TFA Qualifying Speech Tournament, Friday & Saturday, November 14 & 15 and here are the results:
In Duet-Acting: Curtis Huery and Stanley Jackson placed 3rd in the finals In Dramatic-Interpretation: Stanley Jackson placed 2nd in finals, Malaysia Jackson advanced to the semi-finals.

In Poetry: Malaysia Jackson placed 6th in the finals, Elisa Hill advanced to the semi-finals.

Other participants for this tournament were: Luis Morales -Prose, Abrianni Perry -LD Debate, Jaleesa Dawkins -Poetry, Dahleah Moore -US Exempt, Jeremiah Gray - Duet-Acting, US Exempt, & Dramatic Interp., Erica Jones -Duet-Acting & Dramatic Interp., Jalen Patterson -Dramatic Interp. & Poetry, Bryanna Minnieweather -Dramatic Interp. and Team manager- Gabrielle Rogers . The trophies won by the students are exquisite.
This tournament and others like it help students qualify for state level competition in Forensics.
Carver is "State-Bound" in Speech and Debate!

• On December 5th our choir, orchestra, dance, and theater troop will perform at Barnes and Nobles for our annual senior fund raising event. This event will be held from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Champions Forest location.

• A play “Keep the Kids Alive – Dreams Come True” was performed here at Carver in two performances in the auditorium.

• Twenty Four of Carver’s Visual Artists submitted artwork for judging the last week in October for Culture Shapers. Of these works, the following received notice and appreciation. Please help our department to congratulate these students.

Angelica, her family and Ms. McEntire attended the awards ceremony for Culture Shapers on Thursday, November 20th at Westfield High School. During this elegant ceremony, she found out what place she has earned as well see the wonderful artwork her Houston peers have created.

• On November 25th, our Carver students will participate in the Gladiator Challenge.

• The National Honor Society induction was held here at Carver will be held in the Auditorium on November 20, 2008.

• Carver’s Fall Dance was held in the gym from 7:30 – 11:00 p.m. on November 21st and is being sponsored by the Senior Class.

• The week of November 17 – 21 was “Education Go Get It Week”. Here at Carver High, there was an array of different events scheduled for each day during lunch as well as a contest.

There was a door decorating contest that displayed a "College Theme" between the 4th period classes. The winner of this contest will receive a prize. All doors were to be completed by the end of 4th period on Thursday, November 20th.
