Carver Thespians Excel at Nationals!!!!
Carver High School Theatre attended Nationals at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska during the week of June 20-25 and were very successful!!! Over 300 schools were represented at nationals with students from all around the World from places as far as the United Kingdom and Guam. On Tuesday, the nineteen students who qualified for nationals competed in various events. On Thursday, the Group Acting and Group Musical scenes received mainstage call backs for their performances beating out several thespians. On Saturday, the Group Musical scene took home gold and were chosen to perform on Mainstage for the National Individual Events Showcase. The four students performed "Fake Your Way to the Top" from the musical Dreamgirls for over 3000 attendees at the Lied Performing Arts Center and the Howell Theatre. On Saturday afternoon, it was time to perform the show that was chosen at the State Festival to be presented at Nationals. The troupe performed their play, The Complete History of America Abridged, at the Johnny Carson Theatre for over 200 thespians and it was well received by the audience. Also at festival, Carver Theatre student and Texas Thespian student state board member Jeremiah Gray attended many meetings representing Texas Thespians very well. A picture of the group musical scene performing on mainstage can be found on the International Thespian Festival's website: schooltheatre.org/blogs/strut-fret/2011/06/tf-11-nies#comments. Also, some theatre students were interviewed by festival staff. This can be viewed at schooltheatre.org/blogs/strut-fret?page=4 and we are about four minutes into the video under Thespian Festival 2011, Mike Rock at Retro Night. The students were accompanied to festival by Roshunda Jones, Director, Phyllis Brown, Performing Arts Counselor and new Technical Director Jabari Collins. The Carver Theatre Department would like to thank State Representative Sylvester Turner, the Acres home Community, Panther Players Parent Support Group and Carver High School Faculty and Staff for helping make the students dreams of attending nationals come true.
