Too Cool to Smoke Puppet Show
Too Cool to Smoke: with The Kids on the Block educates youth in the Houston area about the dangers of using tobacco. The puppet show places two lead characters, 14-year-olds Joanne Spinoza and Eric Van Aart, in the food court at a local mall. When Joanne is bothered by cigarette smoke from a nearby smoker, it starts a discussion with her friend Eric about the negative effects of tobacco. The performance included a question-and-answer period during which students can ask questions directly to the puppet characters, who address some common myths and misunderstandings about tobacco use. |

Recycling Program at Anderson Academy
We are starting a recycling program at Anderson called the Dream Machine Recycling Rally.
The Dream Machine Recycle Rally™ is a brand new recycling program that gives schools a chance to earn rewards, all while helping to clean up the planet and supporting post-9/11 disabled U.S. veterans. As part of the Dream Machine Recycle Rally, students are encouraged to collect as many non-alcoholic beverage containers (plastic bottles and aluminum cans) as possible and bring them in to school to earn points. Schools earn ONE point for every ONE non-alcoholic beverage container (plastic bottle or aluminum can) scanned and recycled. When 100 points are accumulated, they can be redeemed by the school at www.greenopolis.com for rewards with local businesses and national retailers, such as sporting goods, electronics, gift cards, educational events, music, books and videos! The more Anderson recycles, the more rewards Anderson earns! | |
