The Direct Instruction program is a highly structured "phonics" based reading and language program. It has received national recognition and has been shown to be very effective in teaching fundamental academic skills to students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. The Direct Instruction classroom is a "high energy" environment in which there is constant communication between the teacher and students, with the students frequently responding orally and in unison. Bilingual instruction is also provided in this program.
Montessori
In the Montessori program, students learn through a sensorial approach, manipulating concrete objects as they master reading, math, language, and other academic skills. Students in the Montessori program work at their own pace, frequently choosing their own work, with guidance from the teacher.
