Under a new Texas law effective September 1, 2009, it is illegal to use a wireless communication device (such as a cell phone) while driving a car or other motor vehicle inside a school crossing zone, unless the vehicle has stopped or the cell phone is used with a hands-free device. There are exceptions for emergency communication and other uses as described in the text of the law. Attached is a link to the law, designated as HB 55.
