News from the Clinic:
Children often wake up in the morning saying they do not feel well. As a parent it is hard to know when to keep them home from school. Here are some guidelines to use:
* If a child's temperature is more than 100 degrees he/she should not be sent to school. The student may have an infection.
* If a child has diarrhea, which is considered to be contagious, he/she should be kept at home.
* Many things can cause a child to vomit; however, if it occurs more than once and if the child has a fever it could mean there is an infection present.
* Headaches are common among school aged children. They can be caused by lack of sleep, hunger, etc. If a headache is accompanied by fever, vomiting, dizziness or lasts for an hour or more, the student may have other illnesses.
Finally, it is important that the nurse is able to contact parents when a child is ill.
